• Wangaratta Rural Council Breakfree from Fossil Fuels
We are cradled by the Earth. We have no choice but to take care of that what gives us life! The Rural City of Wangaratta council hears the community's voice and understands change must come; thank you for proactively reducing energy consumption and seeking green energy. But we need more. The bushfires raged, huge, for too long, far too close, and extensively. Throughout the country and world there are droughts, floods, deadly air pollution, and a reef on life support. We are in an unfamiliar world now, a world where our climate is unpredictable. And scary. Climate change is powerfully charged by a coal industry. We must find a way to tell the Morrison Government that the coal industry cannot harm the Earth, our cradle, any more. Rural City of Wangaratta, Declare a Climate Emergency. Please! This pandemic shows us that we can change. Let us be wonderful people in a wonderful country. Let us rebuild Australia with an energy sector that leads the way in making the climate and the world, safer. May we all do what we can to use less power, and to use renewable power. May the government see and hear this plea and lead the change for us. Rural City of Wangaratta, help us be heard by the Morrison Government. Declare a Climate Emergency. This needs to happen now! Globally, several hundred cities/councils have already declared climate emergencies, and they are making a vital contribution to addressing the climate crisis. Bold climate action can deliver new green jobs and economic benefits, preserve wildlife and habitats, and improve the lives of people in our community. Australia is made for renewable energy. Let's harness that power, and gain ourselves a future that we can depend on.
