An Australia wide ban on the release of balloons and the use of helium to inflate balloons.

An Australia wide ban on the release of balloons and the use of helium to inflate balloons.

Unite the states and territories for a national ban on the release of balloons and the use of helium to inflate balloons.

Why is this important?

Released balloons end up as litter - somewhere - and threaten wildlife. Balloons are 32 times more likely to kill a sea bird than pieces of hard plastic when ingested. Wildlife such a turtles and platypus die from starvation, entanglement or choking. Balloons are known to travel hundreds of kilometres over land and ocean. Without helium, balloons would not be released.

Reasons for signing

  • I’m a vegan that cares for the environment and more importantly the ocean and the marine life
  • Balloons entangle and choke wildlife, and is therefore detrimental to nature and the environment.
  • Balloons are another single use plastic item we do not need and they are also toxic for us with latex allergy's and we have to avoid them..
