Ban the bag: New South Wales

Plastic pollution is killing our marine life. 30% of the world’s turtles and 90% of seabird species have now ingested plastic debris.

One of the serious offenders is plastic bags. Australians use around 4 billion plastic bags every year - that’s a whopping 10 million or so each day. Clean Up Australia estimates that around 50 million of these end up in our waterways and ocean.

Why is this important?

Around 8 million tonnes of plastic ends up in the ocean every year. We have to act now to clean up our seas. South Australia, Tasmania, the Northern Territory and ACT already have successful plastic bag bans in place. Victoria, Western Australia and Queensland have also committed to banning plastic bags by 2018. It’s time for New South Wales to step up and take plastic bags off the menu for marine life.

Sign the petition and call on the State Environment Minister of NSW to ban plastic bags now.

How it will be delivered

Your name will be delivered to the State Environment Minister in order to show her just how many people in NSW want a ban on single-use plastic bags.

New South Wales

Reasons for signing

  • Cause its for great cause!
  • To help save wildlife and this beautiful earth. We should all strive to leave it in better condition than it was when we arrived
  • Why individual wrapping the sushi in most sushi stores in Sydney or other cities in NSW? And no soy sauce supplying in the mini plastic fish container please everywhere. So ridiculous!!!
